Ocho Rios Jamaica: Mamme Bay Estates

In May of 1999, Susan and I had the opportunity to spend a week in a sprawling beach villa in Mamme Bay Estates (just East of Ocho Rios) together with a few friends (three other couples) of ours.  This villa had its own private beach, golf course, tennis court, pool, bar, and games.  It was a quite an experience, and we all had a blast- trying new foods, snorkeling, drinking, golfing, swimming, etc.  Jamaica is a wonderland of tropical beauty, and while there I managed to take several pictures (353 to be exact).

Where de sun all ways be shinin', boss.  My wife and I stayed at the Seven Seas Villa in Mamme Bay Estates just west of Ocho Rios in Jamaica, at the end of April, 1999.  We rented the villa for a week with three other couples who are friends of ours.  It was great fun, and it can be said without reservation that Jamaica represents a very different style of life.  I took 351 pictures while I was there, and I've selected a few to post on these pages.   Scroll down to see the pictures on this page, then use the links on the left to explore other Jamaica Photo Galleries.

I painted this while the others were thrashing about in the pool.   Soon after being photographed, someone splashed it with pool water and now of course it's ruined.   Or, you can choose to believe that I digitally captured this in two seperate 1024 x 768 shots, and pasted them together using Photoshop 5.0.  This particular painting was in the living room of the villa, and was only one of many outstanding paintings found throughout the villa.

Pictured from left to right: Mark, Susan, Wayne, Joyce, Dave, Jan, Deb, and Joe.  This was taken just before going into downtown Ocho Rios to eat at a Italian/Jamaican joint called Evitas.  This was about as dressed up we got the entire week.  Use the links in the top left-hand margin to explore the other Jamaica pages.

This was a late dusk shot of the moon, facing north.  Like the prankster I was, I kept illuminating the moon with my pocket laser pointer.  Lots of people were pointing and shouting.  See the red dot?  That's my laser.  Later that trip, we all took turns burning frogs eyes out, Dave choosing to pin the little Rascals down with toothpics first.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Are these pictures getting smaller?  Here we see the infamous Dee Dee and Doh Doh Trees, ripe in their splendor in the midst of the radiant sun.

Dave in the pool, with handmade hat.  I'm sorry to report that Dave has only stumps for legs, as you can see here.  Stumpy breached local etti by purchasing the hat from a "politically incorrect" beach-dweller who was smart enough to "work" our villa on the day we arrived.  That early bird got the worm.   The usual, and somewhat historic, beach peddler ran the show the rest of the week, setting up a collection of bird-house and windchime whirligigs he was surely hoping to sell.

In this tiny picture you can see me at the top of the coconut tree, with a Rum Punch and my laptop in one hand...and four ripe coconuts in the other.  A few short hours later and I was asleep, that is, most solidly "passed out" where I subsequently endeavored to recieve 3rd degree burns over the 95% of my body, leaving me little more than a charred lump of coal with a bad temper.

In this progressively smaller picture you can just make out the fact that my Rum Punch glass is almost empty...and that two dead bugs are floating upside down in it.

Above, I wrestle two sharks and a sting-ray while keeping a pair of Red Stripes out of the saltwater.  Sometimes, it's good to get back to nature, and kick a little fin.  It helps one to understand.
