These pictures of Abraham Lincoln's house were taken on the first day of our trip, in Springfield Illinois. We didn't originally plan to stop here, but thought we would at the last minute since we were passing through the town. It is a wonderful house that is still in great condition. I found a good article on Lincoln and have included it at the bottom of this page. He was a great man, and when you read about his life it is difficult to imagine finding a president in this day and age that could even hold a candle to "Honest Abe's" Morals. We were lucky because we were on the 2nd to last tour given that day.

"Honest Abe"

ABRAHAM LINCOLN -16th President of the United States (1809-1865)

The house has been moved from its original location. As you can see, the inside of this home is quite colorful. The tour guide explained that "gaudy" was quite fashionable at the time. All the wall paper was quite busy.

Lincoln was well over six feet tall, and his bed is an oversized one to accommodate his great height.

We asked about the top hat, and no...its not a hat Lincoln wore, but is one from the same period.

Lincoln used to carry his papers in his hat and often referred to his hat as his "mobile office".

The next day we went to the St. Louis zoo.

If you're interested in learning more about Lincoln and his life, I've attached an encyclopedia article on him below.

There were other houses in this area that have been restored from the same period that we also toured.
