Thursday October 1, 1981
Hamels was open tonight. I worked until 10:47, Laura split
for home and I didn’t get to see or really talk to her much, because it was
super crowded at Hamels and I was kept very busy. After work, me, Frank, Terry
and Daniel went to Taco Bell and ate. I got home about 12:00 A.M.
That Taco Bell had to have been one of the oldest restaurants in Shreveport.
It got so old and grungy looking they eventually built a new one
right next to it and then took a few years to get around to bulldozing the
original.
Hamel’s was open on some weekday nights in the spring and
fall, usually for corporate parties.
Friday October 2, 1981
PARKWAY HIGH AT WINNFIELD (AWAY) / 1 ST SIX
WEEKS ENDS
Laura and I met Paul, Frank, and Laurie at Laurie’s
house. Her parents were out of town. We drank and then went driving around in
Pauls camaro, then we went back to Laurie’s house. Ron Della Pietra and Tony
Prather stopped by. Frank bet Paul that Paul would meet Ralph tonight.
Paul did
meet "ralph" and later Frank drove Paul home. I took Laura home, we
sat and talked in her driveway about 35 min.
To "meet Ralph" was to RAAALLLPPPHHH (sound like you’re
throwing up when you say it and you’ll understand). We all meet Ralph a lot.
Paul was drinking wine that night and got trashed pretty early
in the evening.
Laurie lived with her mom and two sisters. I never did meet
her father, as her mom and dad had divorced years earlier. Ron and Tony were good
friends, having met at Hamels Park, as we were all train engineers on the train.
Robert and I trained Ron and Tony to drive the engine.
Saturday October 3, 1981
We were supposed to play football after work but no one
did. Paul did not come up to Hamels that night. Frank, Daniel, Laura, Laurie,
and myself went to Albertsons after work and got 2 six packs of beer and went
driving around, then we went to the Duck Pond and played on the rides. We went
to McDonalds, then I took everyone home. Laura showed me what aggressiveness is
in the back seat of the car in the driveway of her house. She was real
aggressive too.
The Duck Pond has swing sets, sea-saws, and slides. And of
course a pond with ducks! It great fun to try out the rides, yelling the whole
time.
There wasn’t much that didn’t happen in Laura’s
driveway. The late hours and fogged up car windows probably saved us from embarrassment.
Usually after an hour or so in the driveway her mom would start flicking the
porch light off and on- the signal it was time to wrap it up.
Sunday October 4, 1981
Was my last day at Hamels Park. After work Laura and I went
to my house went into Grandma’s room to talk. Frank went back to Hamels with
Paul to play football. Chris Schaffer is the new outside ride operator.
Laura
said yes to my homecoming dance. Brought Laura home at 9:00. We had a good time
until Julie called (Joke).
I had mixed emotions about quitting. I knew I was closing a
big chapter in my life and I wasn’t sure what lay ahead. I felt relieved to be
free of the park, but nervous about not having a source of income.
Monday October 5, 1981
Frank and me went to see "Stripes" at the base
movie theater. On the way, we bumped into Joe, Laura, and Laurie. They were
going to the Red River Revel. Got home at 9:30. Laura called at 9:45 and we
talked until 10:45. I did most of the talking.
Tuesday October 6, 1981
I applied at Cloth World and received the job.
I start work
tomorrow. Frank and I went to the library, then to Burger King. Got home and
called Laura back. We talked about 40 min. It was rainy today.
I can’t believe I even considered working there. Someone
gave me a tip they needed someone and I went down there and applied on a whim.
The place was full of old ladies and the only other guy that worked there looked
like a career looser. It was a cloth store!
FRANK: I thought you were going to start a
career as a seamstress. Now that you mention it, I never really knew why
you quit Hamel’s and even worse, I don’t think I ever asked you why back
then.
Wednesday October 7, 1981
My first day of work at Cloth World. Boring but busy.
Called Laura at 10:05 and we talked about 40 min. It rained all day.
It would seem that my main task at Cloth World was emptying
all the wastebaskets at the end of the night (it was a part-time job). Somehow I
knew I wouldn’t last the week from the moment I walked in the door.
Thursday October 8, 1981
Got off of work at Cloth World 9:00, mom took me home.
Her
car got bumped. I got home and called Laura had already tried to call me.
We
talked about an hour.
Friday October 9, 1981
PARKWAY HIGH AT NATCHITOCHES (AWAY)
Paul, Frank, and myself picked up Laurie and Laura.
We went
driving around in Paul's car drinking beer, wine, and champagne. Paul was
grouchy all night. Me and Laura hid from Paul in Laura’s mom’s closet. I
peed on Frank’s boot. Drove through the square a million times.
At my house, I
took everyone but Paul home. Me Frank and Laura all got pretty buzzed.
Talked to
Laura in the car in her driveway for about an hour. Parkway
won their first game of the year tonight, 11-10.
Paul really loved driving through the square, which was about
6 city blocks of bars in downtown Shreveport by the river front. It was usually
chock full of babes and other people just cruising around, slowly driving back
and forth with stereos maxed out. Cruising through the square was such a big
thing that in it’s heyday it could take 15 min or so to go the stretch. But as
quick as it ended people would make a U-turn and drive right back down the
strip. Paul had a camaro and a sound system that could damage hearing.
Frank squealed like a stuck pig when I pissed on his boot.
We
were both using the bathroom in separate stalls and one of his big military
boots was almost poking into my stall from underneath. I was feeling really
stupid and let him have it.
FRANK NOTES : That car
was a High Out-Put Stereo with four wheels and an engine!!
My favorite album to
cruise to was AC/DC Back in Black, it sounded GREAT in Paul’s Car.
Or Balls To The Wall by Accept. We had a good collection of
jammin’ tunes.
Saturday October 10, 1981
Tammy and I went to Mall St. Vincent.
I was cutting down Berry
Shackleford with her. Lisa called and went to Hamels with Tammy and me, then to
Johnies Pizza. Laura and I went and did the wild thing until 11:00 that night,
then I drover her to her car at Hamels. Frank was with Paul all night, driving
around and playing quarters at Johniies Pizza.
"Quarters" was a beer drinking game. You had to
bounce a quarter off a table into a mug full of beer, and if it went it you then
earned the privilege of calling out the came of a person who had to drink it.
Sunday October 11, 1981
Laura came over about 7:30 that evening, we sat on the couch
and drank beer. Tammy left to go to a flower party, and then mom and dad came
home. Dad was flirting with Laura. Then Ronnie and Melinda came over, and the 4
of us talked until 10:00. Ronnie and Melinda left, and then Laura went home.
Melinda was Ronnie’s most recent love. He had lots of
girlfriends! His goal was to sample all of womankind and Melinda was his latest
work. That boy went though girls like a hot knife through butter. Ronnie and I
were great friends and used to play trumpet, trombone, and guitars together.
Melinda was still in high school although Ronnie had graduated
the year before (about 4 months ago). She was an innocent looking babe who had a
very sweet personality.
Before Melinda Ronnie was dating Ellen Joupii, a girl who went
to Captain Shreve and was almost 3 years younger than Ronnie. They had an
intense relationship and did a lot together. Ellen was a blast to party with and
she also shared with us a very sincere fondness for drinking.
During my junior year Me, Frank, and Ronnie were in the
reference tables section in the rear of the base library with our books, trying
to get real school work done but instead we were snickering about girls. At one
point Ronnie, who had been out with Ellen earlier that day, sat his elbow on the
desk and held his fingers up to his mouth and gently blew across them over to
Frank. Ronnie said, "Smell that? That’s pussy!" I almost hit the
floor laughing.
The summer before the entire gang went to the Louisiana State
Fair, and Ellen wanted to ride the "Enterprise" with me so we got in
line. It requires sitting in tandem and because Ellen was bigger than be I sat
in front of her between her legs. While we were on it she began nibbling on my
ear and rubbing on me. I was hoping the ride would never end. But it cracked me
up when she got off the ride because she went right back to holding Ronnie’s
hand, like nothing in the world had happened. She was a hell of a gal!
FRANK NOTES : (Censored!)
Monday October 12, 1981
After school, me and Frank and Daniel went to St. Vincent’s
Mall for a tux for the upcoming homecoming dance this Saturday night. Also
talked to Riley of Wal-Mart about a job. Called Cloth World and quit.
Called
Laura at 9:00, talked about H.C., and streaking, how we met, Lisa, Berry, Jerry,
and Chris. We talked about one hour.
The cloth world job didn’t last long. It wasn’t hard to
quit and I don’t think anyone was surprised or even cared.
Tuesday October 13, 1981
Laura called and we talked about an hour.
We discussed home
coming colors. Laura applied at St. Vincent.
Laura picked Lavender for her colors. I had to ask
her what color lavender was. I wore a blue tux to match her purple (lavender)
dress.
Wednesday October 14, 1981
Had a super flower party 5th and 6th
hour. I met Laurie, Julie, Amy, and Suzanne right after school. We all went to
get our checks and then we went driving around. I took mom’s car to Mall St.
Vincent for a suit. Then I went to Laura’s house (I had called her before I
left home). I got to her house about 7:00, left at 9:10. We had watched TV, I
gave her a hickey and got two myself.
We were paid every two weeks and this was my last check from
Hamels Park. I was making exactly three dollars an hour even (I had started at
$2.15 per hour), so I was pulling home the massive dough of $120 a week (when I
worked a full 40 hours). It wasn’t much, even by 1981 standards. Hamels didn’t
pay minimum wage- you had to love the work and the people and not allow yourself
to look at the money side of it.
Thursday October 15, 1981
HOMECOMING PARADE
Went to the Captain Shreve game at Bossier High with Ronnie,
Frank, and Melinda. Met Laura there, then the 5 of us went out drinking even
more. Got really wasted. Ronnie took us all home because we were all in his car.
Julie and Donnie’s car got stuck in the high rain waters. The Parade was canceled.
Ronnie had a silver 1966 Tempest with a 1966 GTO hood. The car
looked just like a 4-door 1966 GTO. It was very distinctive looking and he kept
it immaculate.
Friday October 16, 1981
PARKWAY HIGH VS. GREEN OAKS (HOMECOMING AT BOSSIER)
HOMECOMING ASSEMBLY AT 9:00
Paul didn’t come over until about 8:20 P.M.
Daniel, Paul,
me, and Frank picked up Laura and came back to my house. We had a jam session.
Julie, Bic, and Jeter dropped by. Julies car broke, we split and left them.
Laura and I came back and talked to Ronnie and Melinda, then took Laura home,
when mom brought the car back). WASTED.
I had found several unique methods of skipping homecoming
assemblies well before I reached my senior year. But simply making a run for it
usually worked.
FRANK NOTES : The jam
session was most likely us using what ever those things were in your living room
and air guitar-ing to Boston.
Saturday October 17, 1981
HOMECOMING DANCE
TODO: Scan the picture of Laura and I.
Visited Robert in the hospital. Picked up Laura at 8:00, we
went to Don’s Seafood with Marti and Frank, then we all met at the dance.
The
dance got boring, so Laura and I went to my house for a while and then Marti and
Frank stopped by. They left and then I took Laura home and got back in at 2:10
A.M. Laurie and Laura were in a big fight.
FRANK NOTES : I think
this was my first date with Marti. I had asked her to Homecoming during lunch
one day. She told me she had been waiting to see if I was going to ask.
We had
gotten to know each other working on the RollerCoaster, but had never gone out
on a date. I had a great time and I think she did too.
I accidentally gave her a
hicky on her neck. She was a little mad about that but didn’t hold it against
me. It really was an
accident. I was caught in the heat of the moment and didn’t realize I was
leaving a mark. She told me later that a
friend of her’s saw it and teased her. It was a black guy named Bobby Brooks
?? Do you remember him?
Robert was having problems with his back.
I
had not talked to him much since we had an argument in the driveway of my parent’s
house during the summer. But he was in Bossier General and I popped up to see
him. It wasn’t an easy thing for me to do, but I was pretty pumped about the
dance that night so I figured what the heck, I’ll go visit and see how he is
doing. I’m not sure if they ever did find out what was wrong with his back, it
seemed to have cleared itself up eventually. Robert seemed very depressed
overall and didn’t seem happy with the way that anything in his life was
going. He spent a lot of his time sleeping when he wasn’t working.
Robert was realizing what I was about to learn after quitting
Hamels: That it’s not fun being a peon in the retail job sector, taking orders
from idiots. After having spent two years managing a large outside ride crew at
a very busy park, there wasn’t anything out there that could even remotely
match the excitement and responsibility levels.
Even though Laura and I had been going steady since the
summer, I was so nervous when I picked up Laura that my hand was shaking as I
was pinning her corsage on. Her mom was there and took our picture.
We usually never stayed at the school dances for very long,
because Laura didn’t care for most of the Captain Shreve people and I didn’t
care much for the Parkway High kids, so we usually went out to eat, then went to
the dance for about an hour, have your picture taken, and then go out cruising
about the town, and end up parking somewhere secluded.
We were on our way to the dance and we were drinking red wine
out of wine glasses. Earlier I had iced down in a cooler of supplies in the
trunk. She was taking a sip out of the glass when I decided to floor the car.
It
dropped down a gear and when it kicked in it caused Laura to spill the drink on
her chest. She game me a thorough cussing out! I felt like a dumb-ass because I
didn’t even know why I had punched it.
When Laura and I got back to my house, the Army Recruiter who
lived in the house directly across the street was throwing a big party in his
back yard. He was celebrating 20 years of service and was retiring. Laura and I
popped over and we stood out like two gems in a rock quarry because we were in a
formal tux and dress, and everyone at the party was regular army and dressed
casually. But what a
party! People were loaded and everyone was incredibly friendly to us.
We felt like movie stars. They had a long
cafeteria table in the back yard with every conceivable type of booze one could
imagine. And at the end of the table there was a popcorn bowl full of weed and
some rolling papers. They encouraged us to help ourselves so we made drinks and
enjoyed the party for a while before going back to my house.
That army recruiter had an incredible looking wife. I went
over there once in the middle of the day to ask him some questions about joining
the army, even though I knew personally that I would probably much rather go
into the Air Force. I should have known not to even bother knocking when I heard
all the giggling. There was a full time party for two going on in there.
I kept knocking and this
guy finally answers the door wearing only his gym shorts. I ask whats up?
"I was just fucking the old lady!" he said loudly with a big grin (he
said it loud enough for his woman in the back to hear, kinda funny really). What a
guy. I was highly embarrassed and wanted to crawl under a rock. We sat down at his kitchen
table and I proceeded to ask him a question or two and left as quick as I could.
Sunday October 18, 1981
Historical Fact: The #1 pop
single is "Arthur's Theme (Best You Can Do)" by Christopher Cross.
Did my homework. Laura couldn’t stop by but did call about
8:00. That night Frank and I let ourselves into Hamels Park and we set up the
rollercoaster. Frank and I rode it butt naked all the way through just so we
could say we had done it. It was extremely cold! I thought I would freeze to
death. We also did a max-performance stop. Frank rode the YO-YO.
Laurie and
Laura apologized to each other. Tammy and I tried to find a calculator or
batteries at the BX earlier.
Sneaking into Hamels to ride the rollercoaster after hours was
nothing new. Frank and I had been setting up and
riding the rollercoaster at Hamels all summer long. We had given rides to
various people that had partied late with us. So on this night (to make it more
interesting) we dared ourselves to do the entire circuit naked. When we
came to a stop I was shaking from the cold. We got our clothes back on and
then put all the extra cars on the "working rail" so we could ride non
stop over and over again. Then we arranged for a
maximum performance stop on the emergency brake to see what it felt like. I
bumped my knee really hard but survived. Sometimes we would ride our bikes up to
the park after hours, stopping to get a couple of six packs of beer on the way.
FRANK NOTES : Years
later, 1988, Paul’s future wife, Sharon, told my future wife, Teresa, about
this roller coaster incident when we were at the KWKH picnic at Hamel’s, much
to my embarrassment.
Come now! You should stand proud of your naked
accomplishments. Just tell them you're not perverted, just interesting in
setting world records.
Monday October 19, 1981
Checked into school at 10:35 A.M.
After school Julie,
Bic, and
me went to Frank’s house for cookies. Frank and I went out messing around.
Mom
and dad were selling my car. Came home and found Laura and Laurie there.
We
talked, looked at a yearbook and then they left. Julie called me and we talked
about David Polander asking Bic to marry him. Talked until 10:00.
Which car were they selling?
FRANK NOTES : Is the ’77
Cutlass the car that had caught fire from the catalytic converter catching the
grass on fire?
I believe they were selling the remains of the 1971 Chevy Nova
which I believe might have been wrecked in June of 1981. I don’t think I had
the Cutlass yet- and the grass fire incident you mentioned happened as I was
coming back from classes at LSUS (a year later).
Tuesday October 20, 1981
BAND BOOSTERS MEETING
Mom and dad went out. Went to visit Laura, we sat on the car
out front and then Laurie Jeter came by and left. Laura and I talked another
hour and then I left. Got home at 9:05 P.M., and found out that it is exactly
7.0 miles from my house to Laura’s house. I called Laura to tell her of an
appearance I had made earlier that day.
We sat on the car whenever dad wasn’t around but he hated
that! He would say, "It’s not a piece of damn furniture!" But we
still left plenty of butt prints for him to find.
Wednesday October 21, 1981
Frank and I went to the base library, Burger King, then to
Laurie’s house. We told her Laura and I had broke up as a joke. What a lie!
Then Frank and I drove to Albertson’s to use the phone to call Laura to get
her in on the lie, and to tell her what to tell Jeter. Got home and Laura called
me, we talked from 10:00 – 11:00 about the game tomorrow, tanks, ships,
planes, and rollercoasters.
Well they were my favorite subjects so I’m sure I did most
of the talking.
Thursday October 22, 1981
PARKWAY HIGH AT CAPTAIN SHREVE (AWAY AT CADDO STADIUM)
Laura and Laurie picked up Frank and me in Laura’s car.
They
brought two six packs of beer. Frank and I already had one six pack at my house
while listening to records and waiting for Laura. Tammy was at the football
game, and mom and dad had gone to the farm. We lost Frank at the game, so Laura,
Laurie, and I went to Johnies pizza, then Laura took Jeter and then me home.
While in the carport Tammy’s boyfriend Russel pulled up next to us and then
left. I had called Laura earlier at about 5:15 and we had a short conversation
about getting together tonight.
One might think that the Parkway vs. Shreve game would be of
great interest to our group, half of whom went to Parkway, the other half
Shreve. But none of us felt particularly loyal to our schools and as a result no
one felt obligated to stay to the very end. Parkway lost almost every single
game they played this year.
Russel and Tammy were probably going to park in the driveway a
little while and didn't notice Laura and I already there until they pulled up
next to us. Ha ha!
Did we actually go to this game? I believe we did pop in…
Friday October 23, 1981
Only went to one class that day, 4th period.
Got
out at 1:00 because the fair was in town. Frank, me, Laura, Daniel and Paul went
to the fair. Before the fair, we jammed at my house while my parents were at the
farm. After the fair we went back to my house and then Marti stopped by.
Mom and
dad came home and everyone but Laura left. Laura and I talked on the couch for
about 1.5 hours, then I took her home in mom’s car. Everyone drank a lot of
beer that night. After the fair everyone was real tired. It got really cold too.
My house was often the central meeting place for things
because my parents were usually at the farm. We loved to dance to the records we
had- Queen, the Cars, etc.
Saturday October 24, 1981
STREAKED
Went to Albertsons, bought streamers, shoe polish, ribbon and
a big red bow. Took a nap and planned out my night. At about 8:00, I streaked
through Hamels. Went home, showered, went to Johnies with Laurie, Laura, Julie,
me, and Daniel. We all went to the Louisiana State Fair, Jeter paid.
The girls
flirted with the ride operators. Then we went back to Julie’s house.
Jeter
took Daniel home, and I took Laura home. We sat in the driveway and we talked
about an hour. Jimmy her brother came home from college that night. I did a poor
job of talking to Laura. A slow night, Hamels was closed by 8:30.
When I streaked I had a bow down below, and red and black
streamers (Parkway colors), and black and white shoe polish streaks I had put
down my sides. I had bumped into Laurie right before I did it and she drove me
down the dirt road behind the rollercoaster and let me out there. I ran from the
rollercoaster to the front parking lot and jumped in my car over the hill by the
dairy and then left. I heard Jerry the park manager got a kick out of the whole
thing, and in his version of the story I was wearing underware, but what he
really saw was the white shoe polish...
Somehow I wanted to complete my stint at Hamels with something
of a "big bang". Something people would talk about for years.
To my
knowledge, I was the only streaker in the history of the Park.
Sunday October 25, 1981
There was no "ride night" at Hamels tonight because
of the rain. The park closed early. Frank, me, and Laurie Jeter went to Pizza
Hut and ate. On the way back we bumped into Laura and we all went back to my
house and listened to records. Ronnie stopped by. Frank left to go to
church with Marty. Ronnie and Laurie Jeter left to go get a hamburger,
leaving Laura and I alone to talk. Laura took Laurie home because Laura
had skit practice at 6:00. Later on Frank, Ronnie and me stopped by
Melinda’s house. At 11:00, Frank and me snuck out to Hamels to ride
the rollercoaster. We also had to return keys. We went driving around
looking for trouble. Got in about 1:30 A.M. in the morning.
On Hamel's "ride nights" the park was open just for the employees,
and we all got to ride the rides. The most popular were the go carts and
the rollercoaster.
Monday October 26, 1981
Called Laura at 8:00 P.M., she was eating but called me back
in 10 min. We talked until 9:10. The day was mostly very boring. Frank and Marti
missed school to go to visit Louisiana Technical University. Laura, Laurie, and
Laurie’s sister went to a movie before I called, they went to see Arthur.
Of all the Air Force brats I ran with, only two followed in
their fathers footsteps and joined the Air Force. Marti would become an officer
in the Air Force Reserve, and Ron Della Pietra would enlist in early 1981 after taking his
G.E.D. Ron joined the Air Force to escape some of the problems that were
accruing in his life but ironically his first base assignment was Barksdale Air
Force Base, right here in Bossier City Louisiana. His dorm room on base was even
closer to my house that when he lived with his mom in their apartments in
Shreveport. Ron would sometimes walk to our house for lunch or to just
hang out.
Tuesday October 27, 1981
After school Frank and I went to the base library.
Then we
stopped at Laurie Jeter’s house for a while. Got home and at 9:40 Laura
called. It was the first time she had tried calling because Laurie had been over
there and because her brother Joe was on the phone. The conversation was very
general. Laura read a note Andrea wrote to me. It was a good phone conversation
that lasted about one hour.
Andrea who? I can’t remember her last name.
FRANK NOTES : Black girl who worked at
Hamel’s maybe. Forgot her last name.
Wednesday October 28, 1981
Ronnie and I drove around. Skipped 4th and 5th
hour and went to Pipes-U-Pull It, McDonalds, then Captain Shreve where we saw
LeAnn Burlbach. Frank and me went to McDonalds, LSUS library, and then McDonalds
again. Got home and called Laura about 9:50. Mom interrupted once but we talked
until about 11:00. Laura asked me to her homecoming dance this Friday.
Ronnie, Frank and I loved Pipes-U-Pull-It, a huge wrecking
yard of junked cars. You could find almost anything out there. You had to take
the part off the car yourself, then take it up to the front and pay whatever
they thought it was worth.
FRANK NOTES : I don’t think any of us
actually ever paid for a part. Most of it went into our pockets and out
the door. I think someone once took a carburetor out in the hood of their
coat.
Thursday October 29, 1981
Day was unclear. Talked to Laura on the phone for sure but I’m
not sure what we talked about. Also not sure who called who. Supposedly talked
to Robert on the phone that night.
Friday October 30, 1981
PARKWAY HIGH AT BOSSIER (AWAY)
(Also CAPTAIN SHREVE HOMECOMING)
TODO: Scan the homecoming picture.
Went to the liquor store, Laura’s house, the Captain Shreve
dance, Goat Hill, Berry’s house, Ronnie came and got us and took Laura home.
I
wrecked mom’s car out by Barrie house. Met Ronnie and Ellen at the Shreve
dance. Laura drove most of the time. She was afraid of my driving.
Drank beer,
wine, etc. I got caught skipping school earlier that week. I asked Laura a bunch
of dumb questions at her house.
One of the worst nights of my life. I was extremely nervous
about going to her homecoming dance, since I wouldn’t know but a few people.
I
got trashed way to early in the evening and Laura had to drive. We went parking
out on Goat Hill road out by Barrie’s house, the same place Barrie Shackleford
and I used to go park. It was 18 miles into the country but very secluded and
private. But as we were leaving I was in the driver’s seat and we only got a
mile down the road before I had slid the car sideways into a ditch.
We had to walk to Berrie’s house and wakeup her family in
the middle of the night, and then use their phone to call Ronnie Bowers (woke
him up) to come pick us up. It took Ronnie 45 min to get there and the entire
wait was very depressing, as Barrie was there with this small evil grin on her
face. She actually got a kick out of the whole thing and I can’t say I blame
her. She had a good sense of humor. I’m surprised Laura took it as well also.
Ronnie took Laura home, but it was very late by then and her
mom was upset. I had to go home without the car and explain to mom and dad the
next morning where the car was. I drove out there with dad in his truck
the next morning. He was
pretty mad about all the beer bottles I had thrown out the car door the night
before, they were all just sitting there by the driver’s door in plain sight.
I was a complete idiot and just wanted to die. Dad used chains and his truck to
pull the car out. Luckily it was undamaged.
Did Melinda know about Ellen? Looks to me like Ronnie was
dating them both at the same time.
Saturday October 31, 1981
That morning went to the farm with mom and dad.
Gave Frank a
note to give to Laura. Laura couldn’t go out that night anyway. Read a Black
Holes book at the farm by myself Halloween night.
Not only were my mom and dad keeping me under wraps tonight,
but Laura’s mom wasn’t letting her go out anywhere either.
